Diana Ross and Beyoncé: Rain Dance

beyanddiana

I heard this morning that Beyoncé’s Formation World Tour was met with thunderstorms last night at her Raleigh, North Carolina stop. The weather got so bad that the show was suspended but started up again at 11:20pm. In true Bey fashion, she kept the show going, telling the screaming crowd: “This rain ain’t stop this show!”

Hearing this reminded me of when Diana Ross performed for a crowd of 450,000 on Central Park’s Great Lawn on July 21, 1983. I’ll never forget watching that show a couple years ago and being completely blown away by Diana’s tenacity and showmanship. When the weather started to get really bad, she told the crowd “It took me a lifetime to get here. I’m not going anywhere!” Gotta love it. I still get chills watching that performance.

Like Diana, Beyoncé is the consummate professional. Her energy tells you she was born to do this. She owns the stage as soon as she arrives. I’ve been to 4 Beyoncé concerts since 2009: I Am…World Tour, Revel Presents Beyoncé Live, Mrs. Carter World Tour and On The Run. Each tour is a reminder that she is the best living performer. She puts 200% each and every time. Now that’s what I call a Slay!
