Madam C.J. Walker Comes To Sephora

Madam C.J. Walker’s legacy is back, with a vengeance.

On Tuesday night, my husband and I were invited to inhershoesblog’s Brothers Behind The Brands event and it was truly epic. The event celebrated my former ESSENCE colleague and friend, founder of World of Wilbekin, Emil Wilbekin, Brooklyn Circus founder Ouigi Theodore, founder of Grits and Biscuits Alzo Slade and Shea Moisture/Nubian Heritage founder Richelieu Dennis. Obi and I met Rich when we were invited to Harvard Business School to present our company- Curl Sistas earlier last month, so it was great connecting with him again.

The highlight of the event was when Rich announced that his company Sundial Brands had acquired the rights to Madam C.J. Walker. I was completely blown away. This marks an idea that Rich originally had 14 years ago. Talk about dedication.

Madam C.J. Walker’s legacy is amazing. She was the FIRST self-made female millionaire in the US, creating hair and beauty products in 1905 and employing thousands of women who sold her products via mail order. Her example of entrepreneurship is still celebrated a century later. Obi and I watched a documentary on Madam C.J. Walker last year and what she did over 100 years ago is truly groundbreaking.

Now under Sundial, Madam C.J. Walker’s beauty legacy lives on..and with a brand new home. Products will make their way to Sephora and Sephora.com tomorrow, March 4 (Yes, Sephora!). Products will range from $24-$32. (Read more about what Madam C.J. Walker’s great great granddaughter A’Leila Bundles had to say about the launch here.)

With it’s sleek and updated new packaging, I look forward to seeing what Madam C.J. Walker Beauty Culture has in store. Bravo to Rich, Sundial and the Walker family!

xo.Joy.
