Yacht Party On A Sunday Afternoon

blissfulcurls4 blissfulcurls3blissfulcurls18blissfulcurls19Hey, loves! This past Sunday I attended the highly anticipated Blissful Curls Tour New York! Julian Addo from Bella Kinks hosted the event, while powerhouse natural hair brand Curls was on hand as the sponsor. The weather was gorg, food was tasty and everyone looked so amazing! Obi and I were there to cover for our natural hair meets style site, CurlSistas.com! CurlSistas is the #1 reason that I’ve been super busy these last few months. The site and instagram have grown so much in the last 4 months since we launched! We are a little under 5,000 followers now on Insta!

Launching CurlSistas has been a lot of hard work – including building our team of 4 interns and 3 writers, running the daily site and working on our first book + line of hair extensions! CurlSistas has been a true testament of what can happen with hard work and unshakable focus. God is good!

Check out some more fun pics!

I ran into some friends while at the brunch:

What To Wear – When It’s Ridiculously Hot (Part 2)

A part 2 to my What To Wear When It’s Ridiculously Hot post…and it’s a goodie! There’s nothing better then a slit up to there when it’s hot out. Ventilation, baby! Paired with a loose cotton-blend crop top and open toe sandals, you’ve got yourself a winning look on even the hottest day of Summer. What I love about this outfit is that it doesn’t lose an ounce of sex appeal (by way of the ‘up to there’ slit). It’s a fave : )

Want to stay cool this Summer? Here’s my advice!

When it’s scorching outside you want to go with clothes that are not fitted, rather they skim the body. This Zara maxi skirt is slightly fitted, leaving room for some lovely breeeeeze.

Stay away from: tight jeans, bodycons and pum pum shorts when it’s super hot. Opt for maxi dresses, flowy skirts and breezy tops. Loose cotton or linen shorts work amazing, too! Which brings us to…

Some fabrics, like synthetics and polyester, trap heat causing you to feel hotter because they allow sweat to build up. Natural fibers like cotton, linen and rayon (a semi-synthetic that mimics natural fabric) soak up moisture from skin and allow it to evaporate to the outside surface, thus allowing your skin to breathe and feel cool!

For Summer stick to: Cotton, Linen and Rayon and avoid synthetic fibers like Polyester. I also LOVE eyelets, slits and cutouts because they allow air to directly hit your skin!

Hope these tips help you, my loves!

Here’s what I wore: Zara crop top (similar) / Zara skirt / Steve Madden heels /  Betsey Johnson cat bracelet / Capwell + Co leopard ring

Some other slit-happy maxi skirts I’m LOVING:

How To Wear Your Bridesmaid Dress In Real Life

ytthumbnailHey friends! I’ve always been into the fab + flair of weddings (I was obsessed with all the wedding themed shows on WE especially ‘Platinum Weddings’). Ever since I got engaged this year, it’s taken on a whole new life! I am a bridesmaid in my BFF Deja’s wedding in Jamaica next month (!) and can’t wait! Being in a bridesmaid and wedding state of mind it was only right that I team up with Alfred Angelo, the nations oldest family-run bridal boutique, for a awesome post about how to wear your bridesmaid’s dress in real life. All you have to do is change up your accessories!! Super easy, let’s get started!

Look #1: At The Wedding

aa2A note for soon-to-be brides: If you’d like for your bridesmaid’s to get continued use out their dress (who wouldn’t), go for a sleek, classic style that can easily be worn again. I love this bridesmaid’s dress from Alfred Angelo (style 7282L). It fits beautifully and works well for a wedding paired with classic jewelry: like my Robert Lee Morris earrings, Capwell + Co necklace and bracelet.

…let’s switch things up a bit!

Look #2: For Real Life (a formal event)

The wedding’s over. Now it’s time to wear your bridesmaid dress again, this time with jewelry that shows your personality! I love bold, statement pieces like this Kenneth Cole necklace, Steve Madden earrings and Capwell + Co and Kenneth Cole bangles.

Watch my fun video for more style tips!
