Happy New Year!!!

With this new year comes a new beginning and a new chance to make it better than last year. I’m all about personal development and learning the tools that will guide me on my path to success. I was asked to share my all-time fave personal development books and here they are above. I hope they will inspire you as you make 2016 your best year yet! (You can click the highlighted links to purchase).

The Success Principles by Jack Canfield

This book changed my life. I read it back in 2008 as I was trying to figure out my next step after graduating from Rutgers University. I knew I didn’t want to go on to med school (I was premed as an undergrad) but I wasn’t particularly sure of my next step. One day at Barnes and Noble, one of my fave places, I saw this book- I bought it immediately and never looked back since. It’s amazing.

You Are A Badass by Jen Sincero

I just finished reading this book and it was so awesome. Jen has an amazing way of inspiring you and sharing essential keys by using examples in her life. After reading this book, you will feel like a rock star. I know I do.

The Glitter Project by Pamela Skaist-Levy and Gela Nash-Taylor

This book is for any new entrepreneur especially those working in the fashion and beauty industry. I read it this past year and it gave me great insight as an entrepreneur in my hair line Curl Sistas that I launched with my husband in 2014. It’s full of great advice and the authors give you the real deal on how they became successful with Juicy Couture and also what they did when things went downhill. They don’t bullshit.

How To Be A Master Networker by James Malinchak and Joe Martin

I read this book years ago before I moved to NYC and it is a gem. Networking in NYC is not a small feat and you really have to know what you’re doing in order to build connections that will bring you closer to your goals. This book is a very quick read and I encourage you to read it before a big event like fashion week or a conference.

Eat That Frog! by Brian Tracy

This book is for all you procrastinators out there, the old me included. I bought this book as a student at Rutgers University New Brunswick. I was a premed student who was more creatively inclined than anything else. Because of this, science did not come easy. I had to work my ass off to keep from failing everything from Physics 2 to Organic Chemistry. It was tough. And I would procrastinate only to find myself stressed out at the 11th hour before a big test. This book really helped me find a way out of procrastination-hell. It’s for anyone, not just students. My new way of thinking when I’m tempted to procrastinate is this: I’m going to have to do it anyway so why wait?

Make It Happen by Lara Casey

I bought this book around this time last year when I was thinking of my goals and what I wanted to accomplish in 2015. I LOVED it. Lara is amazing at sharing her experiences and inspiring the reader. This is a must read for sure.

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

You may have heard of this immensely popular book. It’s truly a beautifully written story that you will definitely draw inspiration from. It’s hard to put into words exactly how I felt after reading it. I felt like I could soar to the greatest heights. It’s an essential in your book collection this year.

Get Yours! by Amy Dubois Barnett

I found this book in the free book pile when I used to work at ESSENCE. That pile was legendary. I read it years ago and remembered not being able to put it down. Every woman should read it.

I Declare by Joel Osteen

I truly believe that your goals cannot be accomplished without God in your life. Faith in the unseen is what keeps us believing that anything is possible. I love that you can read 1 chapter a day for a whole month. It’s incredibly inspiring and I can’t wait to read it again.

So there you have it: my all-time fave books that have helped me achieve my goals and be the best I can be. I hope these will also inspire you in your journey this year. Remember, anything you want to do is possible. You just have to believe and begin. Think of these books above as your sidekicks in greatness. Wishing you a powerful + successful 2016!
